A historic piece of legislation, the Party Wall etc Act 1996 confers certain rights and obligations on owners regarding work to party walls; to excavations close to structures; and to construction on boundaries. It provides a framework for both the prevention and resolution of neighbourly disputes.
This is achieved through the appointment of a surveyor, who is duty bound to take a practical and impartial view within the framework of the Act. The rights of all parties involved will be protected, by ensuring the works are carried out in a manner that satisfies the Act.
ijf ‘s chartered building surveyors can offer the following professional services:
- Advice on whether the Act is relevant;
- Advice on operation of The Act;
- Acting as Building, Adjoining and Agreed surveyors (note that one surveyor can act on behalf all parties);
- Serving notices and Awards;
- Neighbourly Negotiation.
